T60 - $5 Keatinge & Ball

The Capitol of the Confederate States (Virginia State Capitol, Richmond) is in the center. There is a bust of C. G. Memminger, Confederate cabinet member, to the lower right. This bill has a blue ornate reverse with denomination. They were printed on plain and watermarked paper (CSA block, CSA block letters with wavy borderline, J Whatman 1862, Hodgkinson & Co. Wookey Hole Mill). J Whatman 1862 and Hodgkinson & Co. watermarked notes are scarcer.

These bills are overprinted at right with month of issue April 1863 to February 1864. They were also printed with a1st, 2nd and 3rd Series and without series. More than 160 plate letter (A to H), printer's imprint and paper variety combinations exist. If date overprints and other minor varieties are included, the number is greatly increased. 7,745,600 notes were issued.
